The old green tiles, he said, were \u201cugly\u201d and \u201cinappropriate for the Lincoln Era.\u201d<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Meanwhile, the rest of Washington was silent \u2014 because it was closed. Federal workers were furloughed. Congress couldn\u2019t pass a budget.
